Hi guys… Today we will be discussing the various interior designs out there. This is part 1 of 2 of Designing the Interior that Best suits you and we hope to assist you with and provide you with helpful information and tips. Well, without dragging this out a further, it is easy to have somebody else decide the feel of your home, but ultimately you’re the one who will have to face it / live with it everyday. Worst case, you follow trends to the letter. Remember trends come and go, year on year.
So ask yourself, ‘What do I want?’ ‘What makes me calm, happy, proud or fulfills my needs’
Choose a style that says who you are. And remember, style and comfort can work together, no need to opt for either one at the expense of the other.
Once you have established the mood of your home, set aside a time to appraise your furniture. Ultimately, decide what will work with your style. Sell these items but better yet find a way to reuse these pieces with a touch of paint etc (covered in our post on How to start a decorating project)
Here are a few styles to consider:
Modern
Sleek furniture with clean crisp lines, paired with a simple color palette. Accessories are functional comprising of metal, glass and steel. There is no clutter or many accessories.
Contemporary
The style is similar to Modern, but more forgiving. A warmer feel with some wood, wool, linen thrown in. Accessories are kept to the minimum, but are interesting and thoughtful.
Minimalist
Furniture has a simple modern design which is functional and streamlined. The color palettes are neutral.
Industrial
Inspiration drawn from a warehouse and urban loft. Unfinished rawness in many elements example; exposed brick, wood duct work, high ceilings, metal light fixtures. Palette is derived from wood and metals.
Mid-Century Modern
This style draws from a retro nostalgia and has a minimalism feel. It is functional and fuss free.
Scandinavian
This style depicts simple living. Furniture designs are functional. All white color palette. A mix of decor accessories with wide plank flooring, bright plastics, enameled aluminum and steel. Color comes in the form of art, throws, or one furniture item. Spacious, less cluttered design style.
