Rustic dinner inspiration

Hi everyone

There is nothing better than good food, good friends and beautiful table linen. Am I right? It may be a casual get together or a formal dinner, the perfect table setting is set with lovely table linen.

Let’s look at one of my favorite dinner table setting namely the rustic dinner table.

Elements: Wood, greenery and lighting

The rustic dinner table draws heavily on earthy elements and tones, namely wood, flowers and foliage. A solid tabletop, treated or untreated, is the basis of the rustic look. An abundance of foliage and flowers as a centerpiece, is a must as it softens the harshness of the solid wood table top. Candle light adds to the rustic feel at night, whereas the mood of a late lunch is set with the rays of a setting sun streaming in through the window.

Table Linen: Runner, Tablecloth, Napkins

The table linen is made of natural linen, the courser in appearance, the better. The natural properties of linen, as mentioned in previous posts, makes this a type of fabric ideal for table linen and napkins. The natural creases creates a feel of relaxation.
Runners are ideal as it allows for the beauty of the solid wood to be seen. The edging can be detailed by fringed or finished with a plain unobtrusive hem. The plainer the better.
Place mats can either be woven natural fibers, like grass or sisal. Or stringed bamboo. Or a wooden board, a shade lighter or darker than the tabletop. As long as it is natural. A linen place mat made of the same linen as the runner can also be used.

Color Palette:

The color palette of the setting adds to the ambiance. These can range from deep browns to rich creamy tans, and delicate whites. To add an unexpected visual delight, faded greens and reds can be used for the napkins. These colors should tie in with the colors of your centerpiece, thus bring it all together. The washed effect of some linens, also adds to the feel of well used linen, creating an unpretentious setting.

Cutlery and Crockery:

The plainer the better, with no detail, thus eliminating the creation of a stiff atmosphere. Cutlery is also limited to the bare essentials and so are the crockery pieces, depending on the menu, which should be hearty but light.

The key to any rustic dinner table settings is natural textures
